A new one for the Reptiles section, with thanks to Nick Baker of www.ecologyasia.com for help with the ID.
I have done quite a lot of depressing reading lately about the extent of the illegal poaching and trafficking of wild animals, and as a consequence I have decided that I will not give specific details about the locations of my sightings. In more positive news, my telephoto lens is back, repaired, from the supplier - so I'm back in business! Robin. I made the dubious decision to go for a night hike around the local area this evening. I didn't see much apart from a pack of stray dogs and this beast, also added to the Centipedes (Chilopoda) section.
Robin. An exciting one - this is the first time that I've been able to add a new photo to the Fish section of the site!
This one was spotted in some mangroves south-west of Balik Pulau. There were actually quite a number of them, but they were incredibly skittish. Amazing creatures - definitely amongst my favourites! Robin. Below is a photo of a Stork-billed kingfisher (Pelargopsis capensis) that I spotted about 3 weeks ago in Balik Pulau. It was the last photo I took with my 150-500mm lens before it died on me (the lens, not the bird). Unfortunately, I'm currently without the means to take any new photos. The supplier have said that I should get it back in 2 weeks, but I have little trust in that promise.
I will also take this opportunity to say that I shall be leaving Penang in a few months to take up a new post in Kathmandu, Nepal. That means that from July there won't be any new updates to the site. I will of course leave the site online and I hope that it will be of use and interest to people interested in Penang's wildlife, now and in the future. Robin. |
